Robi Domingo was completely shocked when his friends from Robilievers have thrown him an early birthday bash cum charity event with the pre-school pupils of BatasanHillsElementary School yesterday, September 11. Straight from his classes at the Ateneo De Manila University, Robi dropped by at the venue, not knowing his father was in cohorts with his fans. “Sobrang overwhelmed ako kasi sa utak ko parang puro ‘Oh my gosh’ lang. Kasi ‘di ko talaga inexpect eh. Ang alam ko lang may charity event. Sabi kasi ni Papa, ‘May mga ibibigay tayong appliances ngayon.’ Sabi ko, ‘Bago ‘ko umuwi, sige dadaan ako.’ Tapos biglang pagdating ko dito kumanta sila ng happy birthday,” he later told ABS-CBN.com.

The 19-year-old hottie recalled that he was asleep in the van on the way to BatasanElementary School. So when he saw that a lot of people were waiting for him there, he initially thought that the whole thing was just part of a dream. “It’s a dream come true, actually. I really want do this for my birthday. Kasi sabi ko kay Papa even before this, ‘Pa, pwede bang sa birthday ko wala nang party?’ Instead of spending for a big celebration, i-share na lang yung blessings sa mga unfortunate brothers and sisters natin,” Robi shared.

Making the occasion more special were the traditional Filipino songs and dances which the school choral and dance troupe prepared just for Robi. He in turn gamely played some classical pieces on the piano which the Robilievers arranged for everyone’s entertainment. Afterwards, Robi further interacted with the kids by reading a short story to them with matching comic gestures and sound effects. From the looks of it, he was obviously enjoying the impromptu activities despite the fact that he’s quite tired after all his exhausting schedule lately.

“Since high school I’ve been exposed to different kinds of people na and this kind of extracurricular activities. Palaging iniimpart sa amin yung importance ng helping others, sharing your blessing and everything about that. Sa nangyayari ngayon sa akin, it’s a simple joy for me to say to myself na, ‘Welcome back to your high school years!’ Robi exclaimed. Aside from having fun with the children, Robi also distributed personalized school items (backpacks, coloring books, crayons, pencils, erasers and more) to the whole class.

A spokesperson and consultant of the Department of Education, Robi agreed that this special birthday blowout was very appropriate with his advocacy ‘Read On Be In’. When asked how he felt about being the newest role model of the Filipino youth, Robi humbly answered, “Sobrang salamat. I am very happy to be a consultant. Gusto ko maging idol nila yung mga successful na tao talaga—not only those who are successful because naging sikat sila in a snap, gusto ko dahil sa sariling pagsisikap,” he concluded.
