Robi Domingo eager to work with scriptwriter Ricky Lee someday

by Bong Godlinez

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus runner-up Robi Domingo was not even born yet when award-winning scriptwriter Ricky Lee was toiling over the script of what would turn out to be the critically acclaimed film Himala (1982).

Himala—without overlooking his impressive filmography and other writing achievements—arguably is Ricky's masterpiece as a storyteller.

To beef up the special edition release of Ricky's anthology, Si Tatang at Mga Himala ng Ating Panahon, the highly-respected scriptwriter included the screenplay of Himala, complete with pictures never seen before and anecdotes by some of the major players in the making of the film.

Si Tatang at mga Himala ng Ating Panahon was first printed in 1988. Last May 31, the book was re-issued with updates and new materials at the Powerbooks in SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.

ROBI, THE FAN. The book launching was well attended by personalities in the field of show business, arts, and literature.

To make the event more special, Ricky invited some of his celebrity friends to read excerpts from the book to give the public a taste of what to expect.

Young actor Robi Domingo, 19, was personally invited by Ricky to the occasion, together with veteran actors Ricky Davao, Ogie Alcasid, Chanda Romero, Vangie Labalan, Jean Garcia, and heartthrobs Dingdong Dantes and Angel Locsin.

A self-confessed fan of Ricky Lee, Robi told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the event: "First of all, it's Ricky Lee, so bakit hindi ako sasama? Tapos I love reading books, especially 'yong mga books ni Ricky Lee. Kasi for the past events, kasama niya po ako sa book launching. So, suki na suki niya na ako."

Robi has never worked with Ricky in any project but he experienced the scriptwriter's brilliance first-hand in several workshops.

"Simply the best," he replied readily in describing Ricky as a mentor. "Simply the greatest scriptwriter of all time... Yung Himala niya, patunay 'yon."

Robi's showbiz career is still young and the prospect of working with Ricky in the future excites the MYX VJ and Gigger Boy no end.

"In the future, I'm really hoping to work with him," confessed Robi. "Kahit anong film 'yan, kahit anong event, kahit 'tong event na 'to ulit-ulitin hindi ako magsasawa."
